The buffing of Saber's LA River piece..

Source
On September 1, 2009 federal stimulus money was used by the Army Corps of Engineers to buff the Los Angeles River of graffiti. In doing so, they white washed an important part of L.A.’s artistic history. Key among the pieces that were destroyed was a work by the artist SABER; artwork recognized by many worldwide as the largest graffiti masterpiece. Created in 1997 on the sloping concrete banks off the 5 freeway, the piece measured 250’ x 55’ – nearly the size of an NFL football field – and took 97 gallons of paint.

This piece is huge. I checked it up myself on Google Maps (LA, E 7th Street), and you can still see it..

MAK Design Space

CUTE PUPPIES
Young Austrian Designers
9.9 - 26.10.2009

Went to this cool little exhibition at the MAK on Saturday. Free entry every Saturday. (Turn right after entrance)

The cut out above can be made into one of these dancing disomatic dudes. Click here for epileptic attacks.

The MAK Design Shop has some neat stuff; books, lomo cameras, lamps, etc. Most of it is a bit pricey though.

C'est en faisant n'importe quoi qu'on devient n'importe qui.

Remi Gaillard is unbelievable. I had to watch every single one of his videos (go to his youtube channel for more vids, he's really done a lot). His ideas are always amazing, and he manages to get away with so much random stuff. xD

I definitely want to try some of these out myself, the McDonald's one is quite a clever idea :D

Disney buys Marvel..??!

 http://www.eatsleepgeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/marvel.jpg

From Mashable:
The Walt Disney Company has announced it will acquire Marvel Entertainment, Inc. in a stock and cash transaction worth 4 billion dollars.

Disney will pay Marvel shareholders a $30 per share, plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own, based on the closing price of Disney on August 28, 2009.

What makes this deal huge, as far as content goes, is the fact that under the terms of the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of not only Marvel itself, but also over than 5,000 Marvel characters. Disney will now benefit from any movie or a game based on characters such as Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men and many others; extending its reach to the young male population it had somewhat neglected will definitely be good for the entertainment giant.

Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s Chief Executive Officer said that “Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses.”

“This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories,” said Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company.

Read the official announcement here.
I kind of have mixed feelings about this. My first reaction, which I think would be any decent person's reaction: WTF???! But Disney is a creative company after all, and also has Pixar under its belt, so something halfway acceptable can still come out of this unthinkable acquisition.. we'll just have to see what happens. =)

the days are just packed. even when we're doing nothing. especially when we're doing nothing..
